And it is still the one theological question that Seventh-day Adventists do not have an answer for: Why has Jesus not yet returned? Like Noah who preached for 120 years that a flood was coming, the Seventh-day Adventists have preached that Jesus is coming again for over 169 years, as of 2013. And like Noah, we have been the target of scoffers who say: “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:4).

What does it matter, you say? It matters a great deal. Jesus promised He would come again. He promised in John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again, and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also” (italics supplied).

In fact, 20-25% of the verses of the New Testament describe the Second Coming. And we aren’t just talking about the physical phenomena in the sun, moon, and stars. The resurrection of the dead is promised when Jesus comes. Our change from mortality to immortality is promised when Jesus comes. The end of pain and suffering and death is promised when Jesus comes. The righting of all wrongs is promised when Jesus comes. The end of sin is promised when Jesus comes. The faithfulness and truthfulness of God and His promises hang in the balance until Jesus comes.
